Also known as ‘Jazz & Swing’. Owner Ray Purslow opened the shop in October 1976 on Loveday Street in the Gun Quarter. It eventually closed in 2007.
Thanks to Stuart Chalk for sending some classic photos – top man. Now we just need to see if Nic Vipond has any…

The shop was a short walk out of town and seemed an odd place for a shop but it lasted 30 years so what do I know?
My first visit to the shop was around 79/80. I was looking for a Charlie Parker on Dial triple lp. Ray recommended another double lp of “Savoy Masters” . Great choice so thanks Ray!
Happy days is Ray still. With us hope so

Hi Ray Turner, I’m still hanging in following a heart problem, a knee replacement and waiting for a date for the other painful knee to be replaced. Hope you are well and still enjoying your Al’ Martino and Dean Martin recordings. Regards RJP

I decided to close my mail order service in March 2019, but as I still have stock left from my days of retailing, I am occasionally seen selling drastically reduced items at more than one music society meeting, such as at the Birmingham monthly branch meetings of the Sinatra Music Society at the E57 Club Kings Heath, on the first Thursday of each month at 1.30pm until 4pm, and sometimes at the Birmingham Jazz Record Society held each Friday at 1.45pm until 4.00pm at The Cobden Hotel on Hagley Road. I have recently changed my email address to music.man79rjp@gmail.com
Looking forward to seeing you and any of my old friends at any of the meetings.
Ray Purslow.
Glad to see you still playing the turntable . Always enjoyed my visits to you in the late 1980s/90s when you always had something rare playing . Perhaps a bit more than you as I was collecting the rent All the very best!
