I have made a video of this band which is on youtube, it was made with the owner’s consent Martin Silvers if you want it on your site
I made this video for the Outdoors from some very old photos it does show them live at The Outrigger where Martin ran his first venue for local bands.
It also shows them playing a gig supporting the Sweet at the infamous Tin Can club in Bradford Street.

I remember them well. I almost joined them once but stayed in my own band – a decision I’ve often regretted.
I thought they were a really good band and Martin was a great guy.
I met Martin when he worked at the Virgin Megastore opposite Lewis’s. He gave me a tape he had made whilst in the US of a live (early) REM Tape together with some Let’s Active tracks. He also gave me a six track cassette tape of Great Outdoors called The Bible which I still posess. After a few years I encountered him again running The Highway 61 Music Store up near Birmingham Town Hall and subsequently in Wolverhampton. After that I believe he sold CDs and Vinyl online under The Highway 61 moniker, but no trace ever since.
HI THERE
THIS is very random but im a big Great Outdoors fan. i bought their only album some 25 + years ago in the Record and Tape Exchange in London for the pitiful price of 50p!!! Its actually priceless to me and i often find myself pulling it out and playing it on the turntable. Whilst looking at the inner sleeve recently, i came across the actual letter of release from Upright Records who were promoting the album. I also have a print out of the album reviews from “Sounds”, “Record Mirror” and “The Catalogue”. I also have a copy of the Sounds review of the band by Dave Henderson. If you’re interested i am happy to scan everything over to you as PDF’s so hat this can be shared with any other fans still out there .

I used to work with the drummer so saw them a good few times. They did release a great LP – worth trying to track down a copy as full of great songs. I thought they may have got somewhere – shame.
