Tetlow’s Recording Studio was situated on or near to the end of the Stratford Road, near to the Birmingham Ring Road. In the days of 12 inch speakers of only 30 watts output it was a revelation to see and hear the 3 inch thick, yard square Quad Electrostatic speakers they had, which had an amazing range and purity. I was there when Ultra Sound recorded a demo there in 1969, for Dougie Thompson, who ran the Rainbow Suite. The demo was Dougie’s idea, as he said that he knew the Beatles from his days with The Rockin’ Berries, and he thought he may be able to get a recording deal through them. Dougie’s sudden death in an industrial accident around 2 weeks later ended that opportunity. Jimmy Tetlow was a young sound engineer working with the BBC at that time, but also had his studios. Some years later I saw the name James Tetlow, Sound Engineer on the credits of The Muppet Show, and presume it to be him. Animal must have been fun to record.
I have a Tetlow’s record label somewhere, and will send a photo if I can find it.

I remember going to JIm tetlows recording studio in the early years with Denny Ball and his brothers (Deadbeats) where Denny would record commercials,while working at Rackhams.

I worked with Jim in the sixties with tatty roe drummer in my band the image we made en ep with Jim on request from reg Calvert who was unfortunately killed on a pirate radio ship.

This is the only place I could find reference to Jim’s studio when I was trying to relate my past to a friend.
I worked in Jim’s studio for a while before it closed down. I built some electronics for him and a guy who had put some money into the business. Mad times… 😂
He went to work for ITV as I recall and became the sound engineer for the spitting images program (and no doubt others).
Mixing desk was eight Quad preamps combined into a mono mix.
