I remember Red Sun very well ( they were an excellent group ) John Kirtons father used to be on the committee at The Royal British Legion club in Share End Birmingham.
After the Locarno had long since closed down, I was on holiday at a well known holiday camp & as it turned out John Kirton was one of the acts who performed one night at the Social Club there. It was great to see & hear him sing again.

On heading back to my chalet who should I bump into but John Kirton on his way back to his car.

We stopped & chatted for a few minutes about his time with Red Sun at The Locarno & he was a real gentleman taking the time to reminisce about the good old days.

Wherever you are now John I hope you are in good health

Remember Red Sun very well. My husband Dave Lane was the keyboard player. Brilliant times were had at the Locarno and Red Sun picked up the prestigious Carl Allen Award. I remember Yvonne as one of the girl singers. Along with Rose, Edwina, Lisa and Rhonda to name but a few. Miss those days so much.

I’m Edwina, singer from a Red Sun. These were the best times.

I’d love to still do it now.

Hi, I used to come and see John & the band in Butlins in Minehead many moons ago. I actually fell upon a cassette of theirs today!! After playing it it brought back great memories of that time.

My Dad was in this band at some point (Gil Monks). He still plays in Spain, where he lives. I’ve sent him a link to this x

Was this the band Red Sun that sang on stage at the Empress ballroom at Skeggy Butlins in 1986? I remember there being a girl lead singer with like a white blond Bob that used to wear waistcoats and blouses with brooches. We used to go alot with our touring caravan and my dad got to know them. My dad was 6ft 4, looked like Jack from on the buses TV show and he always used to wear white short sleeved shirt and tie with his jeans. My mum and sister and I always were at the front of the stage dancing. Good memories of being 13 back then.
