I was a DJ at Rebeccas in the early 70s along with Pat Martin , Pete King & Barry John .I aiso done the odd shift at Barbarellas ,The Cedar Club & Pollyannas . I carried on DJaying thro’ to the mid 90s & worked in just about every part of Brum over the years .Thro’ the 80s i done a lot of smaller venues [i suppose the Swan with 5oo+ punters ain’t really small ] i much prefered these gigs because the hours were shorter & the money was better .Overall i’d say my fave place was the Book & candle In Redditch [alas no more ].I’m still in touch with Pat martin & Barry John from time to time & i’m still a proper vinyl junkie .The only gigs i’ve done in recent times have all been on vinyl [why may you ask ? cause it’s real & it’s the only way to play old soul & motown ] I’m currently halfway thro’ putting together all my memories in writing just to share with anyone who might be interested .

Hi Pete,
Coming up to 1969 when I left school at 16 , I was a regular “underage” visitor to the Top Rank at Birmingham ,where you were superb, arriving on stage between the band sessions on a revolving floor!
Johnnie Taylor – Who`s making love and The Foundations – in those bad ,bad old days still linger in my memory as tunes that you played – before they were ever heard on the radio.
Honestly inspired by you, I am now 65 ,and work as a self employed mobile dj and compere all over the place – mainly weddings, having 3 this week coming up!
Pete – all these years later I have realised that you were my inspiration – what a man… DJ STUART H
