Is this the same building that was Tito’s Club in the 60’s?
There was an entrance in Rose Hill Road.
I used to go to tito,s think in 1966, and came third in a dance contest. I won a bottle of whisky. It was about 50 yard down that side street off the soho rd.
What a great question. No idea, although on Don Powell’s (drummer for Glam Rock band Slade) website he makes reference to two gigs performed at Tito’s Club Handsworth. Further investigation is needed… thanks for the lead.
I’ve had a look on google street level and think it’s the same place.
Raymond Froggatt’s original band The Monopoly used to rehearse there as their then manager ran the club at the time.
It wasn’t a large venue, the dance floor was fairly small.
The DJ (think he went under the name of Al Capone) used to play good records, the more unusual soul stuff from the USA.
